Laminate Flooring Maintenance And Cleaning

Wooden Floor Covering

The feel of a new parquet is something you'll want to keep for as long as possible, and taking the time to care for your parquet is the key to making it last longer. The information below offers advice on the best products to use for the care and cleaning of floors, polished or wax-oiled floors, and long-lasting protection of your natural laminate flooring.

All Tarkett laminate flooring is ready to use immediately after application and does not require any maintenance oil or other treatment.

How to Care for Laminate Flooring

Good surface protection against wear, tear, scratches and stains is required to keep your laminate flooring looking good for a long time. Most of our laminate flooring is treated with Proteco, one of the strongest surface protections on the market. Proteco makes the floor strong while retaining the original wood feel and is available in three variants, each providing a different look from semi-gloss to matte.

roteco Lacquer is a semi-gloss varnish applied in six coats to make the floor extra durable.

Proteco Natura is a matte varnish that is equally durable and provides equally effective protection. It will preserve the natural color and feel of the wood like an oiled floor. Since a matte finish always attracts more dirt than a semi-gloss varnish, it requires a little more maintenance.

Proteco Hardwax Oil provides a silky matte surface that enhances the feel of wood. While the hard wax remains on the surface, the oil penetrates the wood and provides extra wear protection. Like all other oiled wood floors, it should be 'lubricated maintenance' every two or three years. It also requires a little more maintenance than a lacquered floor.

We also have Refresher products for polished laminated floors and wax oil-treated laminate floors, designed to protect and strengthen floor surfaces from wear and tear. If your oiled floor has been worn or damaged by high traffic, it is possible to use a conditioning oil to restore the floor's shine and apply new surface protection. Refresher for floors treated with wax oil cleans and at the same time leaves a protective surface, acting as a light re-oiling of the floor.

Additional tips for preserving the beauty and prolonging the life of your floor

Use furniture pads to minimize scratches.

Use protective chair pads to prevent floor damage from chair wheels.

Place a rug to wipe the feet in the hallway to minimize the spread of dirt. Note that the most critical area is the first square meter (within three steps), which is the direct entrance door.

Wipe up spills immediately. Surface guards will initially protect the floor, but if liquid is left in the wood that it can absorb, it can cause serious damage.

How to Clean Laminate Flooring

Cleaning both your polished and wax oiled parquet is relatively easy. It is sufficient to clean your laminate flooring with a dry mop or sweep it with a vacuum cleaner. The Tarkett Wood Floor Care Kit set is perfect for this. It has a comfortable design with a telescopic handle, microfiber cloth and velcro.

Sometimes you may need some liquid to remove dirt and stains. But be careful not to use too much water. Tarkett Wood Floor Spray Cleaner for polished floors is easy to use in these situations and the floor dries faster too. If you want to use both, we have Tarkett Wood Floor Spray Cleaner with a refillable liquid container. Alternatively, if you have a wax-oiled floor, Tarkett recommends using maintenance products, including Tarkett BIoclean for wax oil and Tarkett freshener for wax-treated floors.

Permanent, effective and biodegradable general cleaners include Bioclean for polished floors and Bioclean for wax oiled floors, both of which can be used for regular cleaning.

What Should I Use: Water and Soap, Beeswax, Oil, Vinegar

There is a lot of debate over whether to use certain cleaning products on your laminate flooring. For example, vinegar is considered an inexpensive and environmentally friendly way to clean many things in your home. However, applying vinegar to your laminate flooring can actually have a negative effect.

When cleaning your laminate flooring, it is important to remember that you are removing the protective coating on the surface of the tree rather than the tree itself. Vinegar is an acid that will break down the protective coating on the surface of your floors, making them appear dull over time and allowing moisture to penetrate the wood. The same goes for soapy water.

Similar to vinegar, some soaps have the potential to peel or prematurely spoil the floor covering. Instead, you should use a mild pH neutral cleaner on your laminate flooring. Be sure to always use a weakly concentrated cleaning product to prevent detergent layers from forming on the floor.

The best advice is to use a specially formulated parquet cleaner or follow the manufacturer's recommendations. Tarkett offers a range of high performance care products to protect and clean your parquet floors, each designed specifically for the products in our collections.

Tarkett recommends using Bioclean for lacquered parquets and Bioclean for waxy oiled floors, each with different properties best suited to the surface quality of your floor, both of which can be used for regular cleaning.

Beeswax For oily floors: Bioclean and Refresher. This product is a water-soluble cleaning concentrate developed for daily care, especially for oily/waxed wood floors. Contains soaps based on natural oils that protect the surface.

When used regularly, it creates a very effective and easy to use surface. It is particularly gentle on the skin, free of pigments and fragrances, free of solvents and emissions.

For varnished floors: Bioclean and Refresher. This product has unique wetting properties and soil removal properties previously thought impossible without the addition of petroleum-based solvents. Bioclean is free of organic solvents, coloring agents and phosphates, is biodegradable and gentle to the skin. Never apply wax to floors over polished surfaces, the floor cannot be re-polished if needed. Do not use harsh chemicals. For example, Acetone will immediately destroy the surface.

Laminate Flooring and Deep Cleaning

In addition to your daily and weekly cleaning routine, we recommend deep cleaning your parquet every few months. This will allow you to regularly get rid of stains and dirt that has accumulated over several months.

After doing your regular daily cleaning routine to remove dirt by sweeping or mopping, the next step is to use suitable floor cleaning products to start cleaning your floor. The Tarkett Spray Mop Kit is recommended for this. After wiping, the final step is to get over any remaining stains or scuff marks on your parquet. Best Parquet Mop

There are several good options for cleaning hardwood floors, but microfiber and spray mops are the best options. These are not recommended rope mops are preferred. A microfiber mop can absorb and hold dirt and liquids better than other mops, and a spray mop releases only a light mist on the floor. This prevents excess water on your floors and reduces the amount of detergent used, thus reducing the amount of cleaning mix entering the sewer system. Water and wood don't mix, so always use a damp mop and never a damp mop that gets wet.

Repairing Your Laminate Flooring

Minor damage such as scrapes, scratches and small holes is likely to occur over the life of your parquet. These can often be fixed using a variety of parquet repair products such as repair putty, oils.
